ADVOCACY SUPPORT

Helping you understand what is happening and to have your say

What Is Advocacy?

Advocacy is free and independent support. Your advocate listens to you, explains information clearly and helps you communicate what matters to you. If you do not feel able to speak, they can speak on your behalf—with your agreement.

What do parents say?

“You have explained everything I had questions about and did it in a way that I understood. It’s been really helpful.”

Understand: Make sense of letters, meetings, child protection processes and care proceedings.

Prepare and take part: Plan your questions, organise what you want to say and receive support at important meetings.a

Be heard: Communicate your wishes, views and feelings to the professionals working with your family.
