Frequently asked questions

Is the service free?

Yes. The Family Partnership’s advocacy support for eligible parents in Medway is free.

Will you tell me what to do?

No. Your advocate can explain information and options, help you think through questions and support you to communicate. Decisions remain yours.

What if I need information in another language or format?

Tell us what you need. We can provide information in accessible, visual or translated formats and arrange language support where required.

What if I am unhappy with the support?

Tell your advocate or the service manager so we can try to put things right. The website should also link clearly to the feedback and complaints process.

How quickly will someone contact me?

The tender commitment is to acknowledge a referral within two working days. Confirm the live service standard before publishing this answer.

Is my advocate independent?

Yes. Your advocate is separate from the professionals making decisions about your family. They may work with those professionals, but their advocacy role is to support your voice, rights and agreed goals.

Can my advocate come to meetings?

Your advocate may be able to attend important meetings with you when this is part of your agreed advocacy work. This can include child protection conferences, solicitor meetings, court hearings or housing meetings.

Can you give me legal advice?

No. An advocate is not a solicitor and cannot give legal advice. They can help you understand when legal advice may be needed and support you to access a solicitor.

Is everything I say confidential?

We keep information private and explain how it is used. If we are worried that a child or adult may be at risk, we may need to share information to help keep them safe. We will explain this and involve you wherever possible.

What if both parents want an advocate?

Each parent will have their own advocate. This allows both people to speak openly and receive support focused on their individual views and needs.
